Day 5 fall trip 2010

Written By: Eric - Sep• 29•10

Today was, perhaps, the best day of the trip so far. We started out in West Yellowstone, MT an re-entered Yellowstone through the west gate. We headed straight to Old Faithful, but had a couple of delays on the way. The first was a young male bison grazing on the side of the road…right on the side of the road. Kent rode to within 10 feet of him and started revving his engine and honking his horn at it. At this point I placed Kent under citizens arrest for animal cruelty… Jk.

The second delay was a full size bull elk that ran out into the road about 20 feet in front of me. Wow was he big. We finally made Old Faithful and waited around for about 15 minutes to see it erupt. I got some really great pictures of it. Then we went to Old Faithful lodge to see the classic architecture.

After we warmed up from the 40 degree temps we headed out of Yellowstone and into Grand Teton. This was a very pleasant surprise on the trip. The vistas, mountains, and wildlife were every bit as good as Yellowstone. The ride out of Teton and into Jackson Hole, WY was a great one too. After lunch in Jackson, it was south along US 191 and dinner at a local brew pub in Rock Springs WY and bed down for the night.

We are debating routes home for tomorrow but are leaning heavily toward US 36 into Hannibal, MO. We’ll see…
